I have not used Google Earth yet. When I tried to install it I was having an installation problem that I had to email Google with. Since then I got a new computer so I think I will give it a try again soon.
I have Google Earth on my desktop. My question is, how current are the pictures you are actually seeing? I understand you need a paid subscription to get up to date information.
I just used it in a discussion about crop circles. It had some great closeups of new crop circles in teh UK and some fun ones that are art, like the Firefox logo.

It as so cool to look at what my farm looks like from up there. This is probably one of the most educational tools I have seen in a long time as well.
Oh and it's cool to look yourself up and see where you live from so far up! or am I the only nut that does it?

The other day we showed my Mom her old house on Google Earth and she was amazed how she could recognize certain trees and bushes.
