I would like to announce that the forum upgrade to MyBB 1.4 was success and we did not run into many problems at all. The new features and services offered in MyBB 1.4 are going to help our Community grow and make our Members and Visitors experience great!
Special thanks to Optic for staying up late figuring out some of the database problems we had!
Congrats! I know a lot of people have been waiting for 1.4 and I bet they are happy its here. I myself, will recommend that my Clients wait to upgrade for a few weeks. Just to make sure there are no major problems with it.
We did have some problems during the upgrade.
First, while running the upgrade script we were getting an error "You do not have permissions to run this process." After doing some research we found the problem was due to the user running the script not being logged in as an Administrator. The problem we had here is we found no way to login. There is no option from the upgrade script to login and trying to load the forums main page would just fail with an error. Optic was able to change upgrade script to force user login.
The next problem we ran into was with SMTP. After we configured the SMTP setting with the ACP we tried to send email and nothing... Checking the logs we found this error "The mail server does not understand the MAIL FROM command" We searched around to find this is a problem in 1.4 and no solution for it. Talked with Optic and he was able to get the 1.2 SMTP Pear hack to work with 1.4

Sounds like you guys had fun trying to get the upgrade complete... I wonder if Optic is going to post the 1.4 hack to made?

You might not need to. I was reading on the MyBB forums that they have came out with a patch for the problem you were having. I will look for the post and update this message with the link.
